What I’m watching

“Lucky Hank”

"Lucky Hank" is a captivating drama-comedy series that delves into the midlife crisis of William Henry 'Hank' Devereaux Jr., portrayed by Bob Odenkirk, known for his roles in "Better Call Saul" and "Breaking Bad". Set in Railton College, the story unfolds in the first person, showcasing Hank as the reluctant chairman of an underfunded English department in a working-class American town. His life's complexities are rooted in unresolved issues with his father, a lackluster student body, and a deeply divided department. Mireille Enos stars as Lily Devereaux, Hank's emotionally stable wife and the vice principal of a local high school. As Hank's life begins to unravel, Lily reevaluates her life choices. The series, adapted from Richard Russo's novel "Straight Man", is a blend of humor and drama, exploring themes of personal and professional discontent.

Campaign I Checked Out

World Tree on Wefunder

The World Tree equity crowdfunding campaign on WeFunder is focused on promoting sustainable agroforestry through the planting of Empress Splendor trees. World Tree, a female-founded company, has planted 6,000 acres of these fast-growing hardwood trees across North and Latin America with over 300 farmers. The campaign offers a revenue-sharing model, targeting a 4x return for investors. Investors fund the planting of trees, and profits are shared, with 25% going to investors, 50% to farmers, and 25% retained by World Tree. The Empress Splendor tree is known for its rapid growth, reaching maturity in about 10 years, and its ability to regenerate after harvest, offering a sustainable timber source. The campaign highlights the environmental benefits of these trees, including carbon sequestration and soil restoration, while also presenting an investment opportunity in a market expected to grow significantly by 2050.

Album I'm Enjoying

“Agua” by Porno for Pyros

Agua" is the first new song in 26 years from the reunited band Porno for Pyros, led by Perry Farrell. Inspired by the band's encounters with dolphins while surfing in the 1990s, "Agua" is described as an ode to the sea and its beautiful creatures. The track emerged during rehearsals for their postponed reunion tour, which has now become a farewell tour. In conjunction with the release of "Agua," Porno for Pyros has partnered with the Surfrider Foundation, an organization dedicated to protecting the oceans. The song marks a significant return for the band, following their last release "Hard Charger" in 1997, and is a preview of their upcoming third album, the long-awaited follow-up to 1996's "Good God's Urge.

 Quote of the Week

“Change hurts. It makes people insecure, confused and angry. People want things to be the same as they've always been because that makes life easier. But, if you're a leader, you can't let your people hang on to the past." — Richard Marcinko
