Start 2026 Like You Mean It
Most founders treat Q1 like a warm-up quarter. They ease back in, let January drift, and tell themselves they'll "really lock in" by February.
By March, they're wondering why nothing moved.
Q1 isn't practice. It sets your pace, your discipline, and your team's belief in what's possible this year. If you drift now, you'll spend the rest of 2026 catching up.
Here's how to make Q1 the quarter that compounds into everything else:
1. Pick One North Star Metric for Q1
Not five. Not "growth + operations + culture." One number that, if it moves, changes everything else. Revenue per customer. Weekly active users. Pipeline velocity. Sales cycle time.
Write it down. Build your weekly calendar around moving it. Let everything else organize around that clarity.
2. Build a 13-Week Operating Rhythm Now
Q1 is 13 weeks. Map them out. Week 1: strategic clarity. Weeks 2–10: execution sprints with weekly check-ins. Weeks 11–12: tighten what's working, cut what isn't. Week 13: retrospective and Q2 planning.
Don't hope for momentum. Design the structure that creates it.
3. Document One System Per Month
January: how you run weekly team syncs. February: your decision-making framework. March: your investor update process.
By April, you'll have three systems that don't require you to reinvent the wheel every week. That's how you buy back 10+ hours a month.
4. Kill Three Things Before You Add One
Everyone enters the year with a list of what to start. Flip it. What meetings can you stop attending? What reports can you automate or delete? What low-leverage work can you delegate or eliminate entirely?
Momentum doesn't come from doing more. It comes from clearing space to do what matters.
This week: Choose your Q1 North Star metric and block 30 minutes Friday to map your 13-week rhythm.
